Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as Medigap, is a type of insurance policy sold by private companies that helps pay for the out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare — like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
It “fills the gaps” in your Medicare coverage, giving you peace of mind and predictable expenses.
How Does Supplement Work?
When you have Medicare Supplement, Medicare pays its share of the approved medical costs, and then your Supplement plan pays its share — depending on which plan you choose.
It works with Original Medicare, not instead of it. You must be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B to get a Supplement plan.
When Can I Enroll?
Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period. This is the 6-month period which begins the first day of the month you are both 65 or older and enrolled in Medicare Part B. No underwriting required
Anytime after Open Enrollment, however underwriting is required.
