Medicare Supplement

What is Medicare Supplement?

Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as Medigap, is a type of insurance policy sold by private companies that helps pay for the out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare — like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.

It “fills the gaps” in your Medicare coverage, giving you peace of mind and predictable expenses.

How Does Supplement Work?

  • When you have Medicare Supplement, Medicare pays its share of the approved medical costs, and then your Supplement plan pays its share — depending on which plan you choose.
  • It works with Original Medicare, not instead of it.
You must be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B to get a Supplement plan.

When Can I Enroll?

  • Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period. This is the 6-month period which begins the first day of the month you are both 65 or older and enrolled in Medicare Part B. No underwriting required
  • Anytime after Open Enrollment, however underwriting is required.
